Mountain Pine Ridge:
The geology of the Mountain Pine Ridge is dominated by massive up lifting of ancient rocks. These rocks are among the oldest formations in the Americas. Some geologists theorize that when the sea covered the entire Central American isthmus, only the Mountain Pine Ridge region lay exposed as an island. Rio On Pools is a continuous series of pools farmed by large granite boulders, of which small waterfalls connect many of the pools. The smooth surface of the boulders makes natural water slides and a great place for swimming and hiking. Rio Frio Cave is located less than a mile form the Pine Forest Headquarters in Augustine. Stepping-stones lead inside the most easily accessible of Belize's river cave. Hidden Valley Falls, also known as Thousand Foot Falls, is a routine stop on the many tours. It is believed to be the highest waterfall in Central America and is actually over one thousand five hundred feet to the bottom. A viewing platform overlooks the fall. Big Roc Falls is somewhat off the beaten path. Here you can contemplate nature, hike downstream, or go swimming at the fall. Cave Tubing and Belize Zoo:
One of the seventy dive sites waiting to be sampled at Turneffe is the Elbow. With a three thousand foot wall and some converging currents filled with nutrients, this can be one of the most exciting dives anyone can experience in the Caribbean. The Elbow currents supply a natural concentration of food, which accounts for the large population of fish and other marine life. Also, some of the largest gorgonians to be found anywhere sway gently in the current providing a spectacular black drop to the explosion of marine life encountered. This three-tank dive also takes you to the stop at Billy Bob's where the formations have created many exciting canyons, tunnels, and swim-through. This area is heavily populated with the many reef fish that inhabit this part of the Caribbean. The last stop brings you to Myrtle's Turtle. Earning its name because of a large, green turtle named Myrtle that appears here almost every spring, this is just one more of the fantastic dives Belize has to offer. Finally, after this exhilarating day of diving, journey back to Las Terrazas for a relaxing evening. Cave Tubing and Zip Lining:
A transfer from Belize City on the very scenic Western Highway brings you to the Caves Branch River at Jaguar Paw Resort. Travel through its winding path through the Mayan mountains and numerous ancient caves once inhabited by the Mayan people. Upon arrival, you will start the day with the Zip Line Tour. Aerial Trek Canopy Tour offers the exhilarating experience of soaring through the jungle, right above the broadleaf forest floor. This involves traversing from one platform to another along a steel cable suspended up to eighty feet above the ground. Once completed with this part of the tour lunch is served. Next, hike for forty-five minutes down a jungle trail to the entrance tunnel that heads into the underground cave system. Your guide hands out flashlights and you are ready to float in an inner tube as the gentle current helps you to make your way through the cave system.
