The start of your day begins with a pick up from the Las Terrazas Resort dock where your intriguing tour of the Mayan civilization begins! Once on board, enjoy a continental breakfast as you make your way through the Northern River where you will see a variety of flora and fauna. After one hour, you arrive at Bomba Village where you will board a private air conditioned van that will take you along the Old Pan American Highway to Tower Hill. Here you will once again board a boat that will take you down the winding New River Lagoon for 45 minutes. Encounter the many species of birds, monkeys, crocodiles, interesting plant life, and culture as you pass the Amish and Mestizo communities along the way. Once at Lamanai, lunch is served along with sodas, beers and rum punch. Lamanai, translated as "submerged crocodile," is a pre-classic structure in the Mundo Maya. This is the only Mayan site in Belize that has its own private museum, where all the artifacts found by archaeologist Pendergast's team are kept. A detailed and informative briefing on all artifacts is provided by experienced tour guides. The tour covers approximately 5 to 8 of the Lamanai Mayan Temples. While touring this site, huge masks depicting dead rulers and gods seem to materialize out of the rainforest amid the chatter of bird life and the haunting call of the Howler Monkeys. Your guide will point out the Copal and Raman trees, which were of great importance in ancient times.

Actun Tunichil Mucknal (ATM Caves)

Travel back in time and follow pathways used by the Maya and discover lost worlds hidden deep within the jungle for centuries. This tour reveals the mysteries of the Maya underworld. Witness spectacular visions of the jungle, while trekking across rivers and remote jungle trails. Go back over 2,000 years in history as you learn about the Maya and witness first hand how the ancients used these amazing caverns. See Burial Chambers with calcified remains, ceremonial vessels and cultural artifacts left by the Maya centuries ago. Artifacts are often looted from caves following their discovery. Because of this, passage through this special cave is known to only a few select guides who have permission from the Belize Department of Archeology. Nearly all of the cultural artifacts have remained in place as they were originally found in 1989.
Start your day with an early flight to Belize City at 7:00 AM where your ATM guide will meet and greet you. Wind the scenic Western Highway towards Guatemala to the village of Teakettle. From there head south to the Tapir Mountain Nature. You will hike a flat, shaded nature trail through the jungle for 45 minutes, crossing three streams with water knee deep. At the end of the hike you arrive at the camp ground just outside the cave. Here you sit down for lunch and orientation about the cave, history, geology, and safety rules. After the orientation and lunch your tour starts off with a swim into the cave 15 feet long, but also 15 feet deep (life jackets available for non swimmers.) Your first 40 minutes in the cave is walking through water, from ankle height to chest deep, after which you arrive at the main chamber. The chamber is 350 meters in length by 50 meters in width. Here you see artifacts such as ancient Maya pottery, skeletal remains, stone tools and beautiful formations. Cave time is approximately 3 hours. At the end of the tour you will hike back to the car, drive to Belize City, fly to San Pedro and boat back to Las Terrazas, returning at approximately 5:30 PM.
